Hitting the road

Me and my trusty traveling companion, Keisha.

So, I had originally planned on hitting the road on Dec. 13th but I still had parts of the interior to put back into place, hadn't really packed and was still trying to work.

Oh, and I still hadn't transferred the registration over from my mom. (Still haven't, I'll get right on that mom!)

I finally hit the road on the 18th and Keisha, my "Trusty" travel companion, let her feelings be known as I called her to hop up into the RV and hit the road. She gave me a single look and took off running the other way.

10 minutes of driving around my neighborhood looking for that dang dog, and we were on the road with, hopefully, enough time to beat the sunset over the rockies.

Finally, the day before I head out, I had to run into Boulder to get my emissions test before I took it out of state.

Kinda hard to get an emissions test in Boulder County when the RV is in Phoenix.

And, yes, this means that I did not get the registration updated before hitting the road. The rear license plate got broken off while at the house, so I spent most of the trip with the license in the sink. So, you know, that seems to have worked out as the cops that passed me couldn't be bothered. Vic, the Alaska State Trooper I was staying with, was quite eager for me to attach my license plate as he thought I'd get pulled over for not having a plate on the back What does it say that I was weighing visibility versus increased penalty? I chose to follow the extincts of the guy pulling people over for stuff like this for the past 20 years, so we attached it, expired registration and all, on the back before putting it into storage. Vic did mention that this gives the police an opportunity to run the plates and find out the likelihood of something even more sketchy going on (warrants, criminal record, etc.). I've tried to rely on my friendly disposition and willingness to be helpful in trying to get out of a speeding ticket. So, there I was at 2 am emptying my truck out on the side of the road. Admittedly, I had hair down to my shoulders, was wearing tie-dye, reaked of garlic and admitted to buying pots in Mexico earlier that day. Still got the damn ticket.

Buying pots or pot in Mexico? But that RV is a huge magnet for getting pulled over so anything that helps you fly under the radar the better. You really don't want to get stripped searched on the side of the road. Unless you're into that sorta thing.
