Why am I living in my RV?

Updated: Feb 21, 2022

tl;dr Well, I'm not. Not full time, anyway. Gotta respect those that have adopted this lifestyle full time. That said, I've tried some form of it off and on for the past 20 years and found a freedom and adventure in nomadic living.

Less Junk, More Journey pointed me to this amazing video which presents it more effectively than I can do. Here's the whole story:

This kind of travel is not for everyone, but I've found myself with a rare combination of freedom to travel and work from wherever. Once a month, my son spends the weekend with his mother and I'll go 7-10 days on my own . . . . so I'll be flying to wherever I last left the RV and head out on the next portion of the trip. But I'll let you in on a little secret:

I have no idea what I'm doing. Really, no clue.

But I'm having a blast doing it.

So what's the point of this site?

It will most closely resemble a travel blog. This appears to be a trope among nomads. For some, this may be a way of saying "Hey mom, it's okay, I'm not really doing that crazy of a thing!" For me, my mom is the one who actually bought The Beach House a couple years back with her own dream of hitting the road, so she gets it.

But why are you writing about it?

I miss people. Friends, strangers, I want to hear their stories. And for those times when we aren't given enough time, this is a way for us to connect down the road.

Friends, for many of you, it may have been decades since we talked. We are not the people we were 20 years ago, so it's like meeting a new, fascinating person that was built upon the bones of dear friends. Oh, and the many stories we'll have to share!

Strangers, if we've met during my travels and I told you about this blog, then I found you to be someone I wanted to hear more from . . . haven't quite figured out how best to do that yet, but you came to look at this site so it seems you are interested as well. Look below for more details on how to reach out to me.

Finally, add in the faint scent of a mid-life crisis attention seeker multiplied by Covid isolation and a relatively recent divorcee . . . this may have jumpstarted my dormant desire to connect mixed with extrovert tendencies. I've been reconnecting and meeting new people for the past few months and have found that, when I'm in that space, I am my best self . . . and endeavor to make this my new norm.

Enough about me! My best self is a listener, (see above) so thanks for coming to check out what I am doing/thinking, but let me know how you are! How to contact me? There are places to leave comments in various places (I'll have to figure out where I see them), my phone number is at the bottom of each page (that can't go wrong), I even installed a contact form (turns into an email) and a chat button (I have no idea what that thing does) on this page that should be able to reach me.

What now? Well, I plan on capturing my travels and, more interestingly, some of the people I meet along the way will give us a bit of insight into their world. Not really sure what form that will take, but that is where my interest lies . . . in finding people with interesting stories that they may want to share.

Why are you living in an ancient, decrepit RV that may or may not get you to the Pacific coast? Because you're weird.

But seriously, Bro. Stay safe.

Let me know if Keisha gets tired of the wandering life and I'll bring her up to Alaska. I need a hiking partner and she's the best darn hiking partner in the world.
